The Image Editor uses a 'Layers' approach to manage the various elements that make up the overall image.
Every image, mask, shape, SmartElement, Embellishment, and text box is its own individual layer. The individual Layers are listed in the Layers drop-down list, at the top-right corner of the Image Editor.
Layers are listed in front-to-back order. In other words, layers toward the front of the overall image are at the top of the list, and layers towards the back of the overall image are shown at the bottom of the list.
Adjusting the order of Layers
Layer order can be changed in one of two ways:
Using the Layers list: In the layers list, there are up and down arrows to the right of each layer.
To bring a layer towards the front, click the Up arrow to the right of the layer.
To move a layer towards the back, click the Down arrow to the right of the layer.
Using the Right-click menu: Right click the layer you want to re-order. You will be given four re-order options.
Bring to Front: Bring the selected layer to the very front of the overall image.
Bring Forward: Bring the selected layer forward one level.
Send Backward: Send the layer back one level.
Send to Back: Send the layer to the very back of the overall image.
Locking/Unlocking Layers
Layers can be locked or unlocked so that you can prevent or allow them to be moved and/or resized accordingly. Only unlocked layers can be moved and/or resized. All image layers that are part of the original image are locked by default. Text layers are unlocked by default. Any elements you insert (text boxes, SmartElements, etc.) are unlocked by default.
Layers can be locked/unlocked in one of two ways:
Using the Layers list: In the layers list, there is a lock icon to the left of each layer. Locked layers have a "closed lock" icon, while unlocked layers have an "opened lock" icon.
To lock/unlock a layer, click the Lock/Unlock
icon. The "lock" icon will toggle between "closed"
and "opened" accordingly.
Using the Right-click menu: Right click the layer you want to lock or unlock.
Unlock Layer: This will unlock a currently locked layer.
Lock Layer: This will lock a currently unlocked layer.
Deleting Layers
You can delete entire layers (image elements) from the overall image. This can be done in one of two ways:
Using the Delete button: Select the layer you want to delete, and click the Delete button at the top of the toolbar.
Using the Right-click menu: Right click the layer you want to delete, and select Delete.
